About Us

Our History, Mandate and Misssion

Frontiers children development organization is a child-focused, national, non-governmental organization which works in Kenya and adheres to the national and international humanitarian principles (NGO code of conduct). Its tag line is FRONTIERS CHILDREN. It has grown overtime from an ordinary community based organization to a Non-Governmental Organization and a lifestyle. The footprint includes the counties of Turkana and other regions of northern Kenya.

The organization’s mandate is to promote the care, well-being and protection of children while encouraging community members to take charge of their own destiny by promoting local initiatives that sustainably improve the living conditions of the socially and economically disadvantaged families, introducing alternative livelihood sources through exploitation of natural resources while inculcating conservation of the same, educating communities on governance, civil and democratic rights, peace building and cooperating with local partners and governments to strengthen their own commitments to social protection and development programmes.

Frontiers Children works through children from impoverished households who form a greater part of the county’s population. The primary target may be categorized as children from poor households residing both in the rural and peri-urban areas, while the secondary target is the wider community.

WHO WE ARE

Frontiers Children in a nutshel.

Frontiers Children is the biggest child-focused, non-governmental organization in Turkana County owing not only to its footprint but also the reach and the respect it commands. Frontiers Children aims to be a leader in giving children a voice, championing their rights and keeping the community and all those surrounding the children to be responsible together. Frontiers Children values the target beneficiaries whose needs and aspirations are of supreme importance. The organization’s format of engaging children and communities is unpretentious and downright local, thus appealing to the community, other partners and government. To this end, Frontiers Children stands out as a children organization of choice.

Where we work

Frontiers children program designs for development and humanitarian services are laid out on the back drop of the Turkana culture. Turkana people are hospitable and industrious in pastoralism-based livelihood. They largely practice kinship support. Frontiers Children has long-term working relationships with the Government of Kenya, Turkana County Government, UN agencies, partner civil society organizations (CSO) and communities within Loima, Turkana Central, Turkana North and Turkana South sub-counties of the larger Turkana County.
